"You took away many people’s hunger."

MG – Palmópolis, 26 May 2018

As you said, Lula my friend: “Dreams cannot be imprisoned,” at the moment I am writing this letter we are holding an assembly at the Workers’ Union of Palmópolis. I am at the disposal of all those comrades who wished to write to you, beloved President. I hope you are calm and spiritually reinvigorated. I know that it is not easy what you are going through, but the prayers of the people, who love you, are many.

I watched the saga of injustice toward you, I cried, I grew angry, but now I see that we have to move forward with your “project of life”, or at least fight so that it happens. Be strong, friend, may the Holy Spirit be your strength. My family loves you. Abraços, abraços, abraços…

Lula, I am so upset by your imprisonment, so much so that I pray every day, so that you may be freed from prison. We have to thank God first and then you, who lifted Brazil out of poverty. You ended the begging in the market; I sold bananas, cheese, and manioc flour every Saturday, and there were always people begging for alms. After retirement, just in time, the Bolsa Família. No one has to share, everyone has his or her own. I will vote for you with all ten fingers, as many times as necessary.

I am 67 years old.

My dear friend I thank you because today I have a way of feeding my children; were it not for that I would have already lost them to hunger. I thank you (I am crying) I thank you so much.

MG – Palmópolis, 26 May 2018.

My dear friend Lula, I am here. I am a family farmer, and I live in a rural area and I am very grateful, because I was a a beneficiary of “Luz para Todos”. May God grant you much patience and health so that you can get out and be with us again. Please accept my embrace.

I am very upset that you are in this situation, because you took away many people’s hunger. Retirement, Bolsa Família, all of that helped. I want you to get out of there, I know that you are suffering greatly and we are even more. When you get out of there we will celebrate: I my family, and my friends, because we love you. Every day I turn on the television to see if you are being shown, but I am asking God to take you out of there. We are going to vote for you again, as many times as you are a candidate we are going to vote for you.

I am very upset that you are in prison. I want you to get out of there to help us again. You were so good! I am praying for you to get out of there, for me you were like a second father, because I am retired and it is all thanks to you. I am 78 years old and I thank you so much, I voted for you before and I will vote for you as many times as necessary.

MG – Palmópolis, 26 May 2018.

I am writing because I want you to get out of there right away. Even the little children like you a lot. I wish, I say, I wish all the best for you, may God bless you because you did not deserve to go to jail, and those who deserved to, are free. My grandchildren all want you to get out of there, none of them is happy. all are very enraged. The suffering of the people has grown. I am 75 years old, I have witnessed the poverty of the people, they lived in the dirt, and now, well, I know, with Lula everything got better. The sisters of the Catholic Church also helped a lot.

I am here just praying that you get out and I am going to vote for you. I retired during your administration and I also had Bolsa Família. Before that I didn’t even have what I needed to eat. That is why I pray every day for you. I am 70 years old.

MG – Palmópolis, 26 May 2018.

I am 77 years old, but I have not forgotten you. When I see you on television I am pained, but I can only pray. I have four children and five grandchildren, they all vote for you, and will do so as many times as is necessary. I have relatives who are raising their children with Bolsa Família. God willing, I will turn on the television and hear: Lula is free, God willing.

You have always been a good person, you were the person who ended hunger, during your administration no one went hungry. Education got better, older people had priority and learned at least their names. Women have never had any rights, but during your administration they did. Malnutrition in Brazil got better, but infant mortality and abortion decreased, even women dying in childbirth decreased, because when rights are expanded, everything gets better. I ask you to be strong, do not weaken, because our lives are a stairway, which goes up and down, but you are going to win in the end.
